I'm curious if this English thread will be active leading up to this years RIP? There appear to only be old threads from 2016 and by this time I would have expected to see some posts for 2017.

Anyway, I am on my lonesome for this festival and would be keen to perhaps find some people to meet up and hang out with via the forum.

Arriving via Ryanair it is as cheap to buy a new tent than take my own, so does anyone have any suggestions on a quick place to buy a cheap small tent (such as a Quecha 2 Seconds) upon arrival at Nuremburg thursday afternoon. Are there more alternatives than only intersport located centrally in the city? Perhaps some nice person who is driving to RIP has an old scavenged tent from a previous festival they could lend me; I'd be ever so grateful.

Hi, welcome to the forum. There will be a Lidl Rock Shop within the festival area (Grosse Strasse), where you can by a brand new tent.

Furthermore, you are more than welcome to join the parkrocker meeting on Thursday at about 5 o'clock. This event will take place in the same area where you will buy your tent.

Unfortunately there are not too many native English speakers active here in the Parkrocker community.

Just me, I think, and I try and speak German...;)

Most everyone here though speaks very good English, and all the Parkrocker's are always willing to be a great help.

Just look for the yellow parkrocker shirts at the festival. Definately go to the Parkrocker meetup. It is always fun.

Ah, I understand the situation now, thanks for the input. Indeed I have been trying to learn German on and off for a number of years now, however still do not feel particularly confident enough with it to converse in the forums, that being said I should be reading the German threads for practice.

Just give it a try and have some drinks with us Thursday afternoon, you'll probably speak fluent German very soon And surprisingly it gets easier drink by drink!

The problem I find when speaking with Germans at festivals is that they are often more than happy to practice their English and are also better at English than I am at German, which means I am not forced to speak German myself since it is easier for everyone to simply converse in English.

Try and find some "older" Germans, like people in their forties or above and you might find some that are not very good at english! ;)

I'm a Dane, fluent in german and english, grew up watching German TV and have traveled there a lot. Also I'm working for a german company (in Denmark), so I have some experience with Germans and their english speaking abilities, and sometimes lack thereof! But honestly, in the last 10-15 years or so the younger Germans have really picked up their English skills and today most younger Germans speak english fairly or even very well.

Pro-tip: if you can arrive Thursday morning really early or possibly even Wednesday evening you will have a better chance of getting a good site to put up your tent, the best spots will be gone even before 10! At least that's my experience from the last 4 years! Maybe you can get someone from the forum to reserve a nice spot for you if you can't get there earlier?

Regarding your "Pro-tip": Unfortunately, that's not so "pro" at all, as an arrival on Wednesday is neither allowed nor desired by the promoter or the local authorities. You can of course arrive Wednesday evening, but I would recommend to spend the night in a ho(s)tel in Nuremberg in this case, and not trying to put up your tent already ;)

Right, there is no chance to get into the camp-site on Wednesday! However a lot of people do put up a small tents along the parking spaces or sleep in their cars or simply just stay up all night outside the campsite anyway, waiting for them to open the gates to get the best places.
But if you have to wait for a shop to open to buy a tent on Thursday anyway, I guess it doesn't make much sense to arrive before the shops open.

I remember one year we arrived at 7 in the morning and that year I think officially the campsite was supposed to open at 8 or 9, but when we got there the gates were open and a lot of people had already put up tents. We spoke to some of the other campers and they told us they had opened the gates at like 4 in the morning.

Well how about this for a pro-tip then? Don't put up your tent directly next to any trees or bushes, I'm speaking from experience here...
(Unless you really enjoy the smell of stale urine)

Thanks for the advice. I certainly agree with your second protip; early days I had done that a few times thinking great location for myself to have a local toilet though I have learned my lesson since then. At Wacken last year there was a popular method of hammering PVC pipe into the ground as a makeshift urinal. Naturally the group I happened to be with decided once full to drop a small explosive inside which was unpleasant for most tents and vehicles close proximity.

Any advice for current good\bad camping locations at RIP these days. First few times I was there you could still camp on the paths between the water, then the last time they had restricted it but I was meeting others who had a good spot secured already since early Thursday so there was no need to search.

General rule: The closer to the stages, the messier ;)
So it depends on what you prefer.

Indeed, I prefer less of a chaotic camping environment, so will keep that in mind. Medium range location perhaps would be a good choice then.

If you prefer less of a chaotic camping, maybe Green Camping is something you can keep in mind. (But you have to make a reservation before, without any extra costs) Green Camping are the areas C6.x
