Pre-WATO and debut EP (2007-2008 )

The band was originally known as Dead But Still Dreaming with Dan Brown and four others. Jack Spence joined after the band lost their original bassist. After a while the band broke apart, but Dan and Jack carried on searching for new members during this time. They had formed a full line-up again by 2007 with Liam Cromby and Tom Whittaker, and still under the original name of Dead But Still Dreaming. After a while, the band lost their lead guitarist, James Clothier, who was eventually replaced by Rickie Bloom and then Alfie Scully (former MC Skullz). Shortly after the creation of this solid band line-up, the band decided on a new start with the name We Are The Ocean.

The band quickly shot to prominence thanks mainly to MySpace and were nominated for Kerrang! Best British Newcomer and voted K! Readers Poll 2nd best unsigned UK band. They released their debut EP entitled We Are the Ocean in 2008, selling all 1000 copies in 1 day.
[edit] Debut album and touring (2008-present)

Over the summer months from May through to September, We Are the Ocean are due to play many festivals and gigs, the highlights include playing The Bamboozle festival in New Jersey, USA, one of the largest Pop Punk/Post-Hardcore festivals in the world, and one that very few British bands have been invited to play, playing the 2009 Download Festival, playing alongside Attack! Attack! and You Me At Six at Guilfest and playing alongside Go:Audio and Attack! Attack! at Butserfest and the Hevy Music Festival.[3]

We Are the Ocean started writing material for their debut album around December 2008. The album was produced by Brian McTernan at Salad Days Studio in Baltimore, USA. They were originally aiming for a Summer 2009 release but for unknown reasons the album was pushed back to November,[4] then pushed back again to 25 January and finally pushed back to February 1, 2010.[5][6]

We Are The Ocean toured with The Amity Affliction on their "Stairway To Hell" Australian Tour in October 2009. The Amity Affliction headlined with support from We Are The Ocean, Hopeless and Hand of Mercy; playing shows across; Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. In late September they uploaded a new song onto their MySpace entitled "These Days, I Have Nothing". On 19 October the band signed to Hassle Records,[6][7] and also announced their sophomore EP, Look Alive, which was released 16 November 2009.[5] We Are The Ocean have been announced as a support act for Lostprophets' 2010 tour. The band announced they would be touring the UK in support of Underoath with Blackhole during March 2010. They also supported Madina Lake. The band also recorded a music video for "All of This Has to End".

The band re-released Cutting Our Teeth in October 2010. The re-release has received positive feedback from critics
