Drum roll, please: Chamberlin says he's back with Pumpkins
"All I can say is that the Smashing Pumpkins are Billy, James, myself and D'Arcy," Chamberlin said. "In an ideal world, that's what it will end up being. The hope is that everybody will come to the table, but I can only speak for myself in saying that I'm in, and I'm excited."
Chamberlin said he has not spoken to Wretzky since she left the band in August 1999. He communicates with Iha by e-mail, and though they have not discussed the Pumpkins reunion, "I intend to reach out to him."
The drummer said he and Corgan have been talking about reforming the band "for some time," but he doesn't know whether the singer and songwriter has spoken to Iha and Wretzky, or if Corgan simply "opened the door" for them to return when he placed two full-page advertisements last week in the Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune.
"It's still all very new, and I don't know if anybody really knows what's going on," Chamberlin said. "We really haven't sat down at the table and figured out the nuts and bolts."

Die Geister, die Billy Corgan mit seiner Ankündigung, die SMASHING PUMPKINS refomieren zu wollen, gerufen hat, lassen ihn nicht wieder los. So brach er ein Konzert in Melbourne, Australien entnervt ab, nachdem die Zuschauer wiederholt Lieder seiner alten Band hören wollte.
Konnte er beim ersten Mal noch ein frostiges "Kann ich mein Leben in der Gegenwart leben" entgegen schleudern, forderte er beim zweiten Mal den Zuschauer auf, sich sein Geld zurückgeben zu lassen und zu gehen, und verließ beim dritten Mal schließlich selbst mit einem wütenden "Scheiß drauf" die Bühne.

Wie die "Sun" in ihrer Onlineausgabe berichtet, schreibt Sänger Billy Corgan ( 38 ) bereits Stücke für ein neues Album.
Die Band, die sich 2000 trennte, hatte schon vor einiger Zeit angedeutet, sie werde auf dem Chicagoer Rockfestival "Lollapalooza" im kommenden August gemeinsam auftreten. Original-Bassistin D'Arcy Wretzky hat bisher ausweichend reagiert. Ihre Nachfolgerin Melissa Auf Der Maur (33) dagegen hat sich sofort bereit erklärt, wieder gemeinsam mit ihren früheren Bandkollegen auf der Bühne zu stehen.
"Ich bin da, wann immer er (Billy Corgan) mich braucht", so Auf Der Maur, "Ich liebe die Pumpkins und die Songs wieder zu spielen, wäre ein großer Spaß für mich. Es war ein großer Teil meines Lebens".

it's official, The Smashing Pumpkins are currently writing songs for their upcoming album, their first since 2000. no release date has yet been set, but the band plans to begin recording this summer

Hm, wird sich wohl zeigen wie ihre große Rückkehr ausfällt. Wenn's gut läuft sind sie zwar nicht der oberste Headliner aber 2. bis 3. Platz könnte man ihnen schon zumuten.
