The Wire Daisies are the latest phenomenon from an extraordinarily rich vein of talent to be found in the South West of England, Cornwall to be precise. Led by strong female vocals, this talented four-piece, successfully combine their love of old-school singer-songwriting with the energy of today’s British rock.
The band consists of Treana Morris (lead vocals), Ol Beach (keyboards), Steve Jackson (drums) and Alden Evans (lead guitar). Steve, Alden and Treana met through the Cornish gig scene and then met Ol at a party in 1999 for the solar eclipse and discussed the idea of working together. In 2002 the band got together on a farm in Cornwall to work on a few new songs but things quickly took shape and after six months there was enough material for three albums! Something had to happen, so after consulting with Jim Beach – manager of Queen – the band approached producer John Cornfield (Oasis, Supergrass and Muse) at his Sawmills Studio and he agreed to record a couple of tracks as master demos. The band moved into Sawmills for a week in April 2003 to record a small live set but it soon became apparent that things should be taken further. At the beginning of June 2003, they moved back into Sawmills and set about recording their first album.
The momentum continued when, on 29th November 2003, Treana performed to a huge worldwide audience when she sang at the Nelson Mandela 46664 AIDS Concert in South Africa. 2004 continued in earnest with the Wire Daisies signing a major deal with EMI Music Publishing and the first regional UK tour for the band was booked.
The Wire Daisies’ performances at the international Montreux Jazz and Womad festivals proved to be the highlights of 2004 and saw the band looking more than at home on the large stage. Playing at the closing night of The Montreux Festival on the same bill as acts such as Air, Jamie Cullum and Alicia Keys was an extra special experience for Ol Beach as it marked his return to the town where he studied piano at the Montreux Conservatoire, under Blue Note recording artist Thierry Lang.
The band released their debut EP ‘Make Everything Change’ in July, following it up with the breathtaking single ‘Butterfly’ on the 13th September. Their debut album ‘Just Another Day’ is now available and went straight to No.1 in both the UK and French iTunes charts.
